Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader Anbumani Ramadoss has criticised the sharp increase in the price of milk sold by private dairy companies in Tamil Nadu.

He alleged that recent hikes of up to ₹10 per litre have placed an additional burden on ordinary consumers, particularly children and low-income families.

In a statement, he said private firms have raised prices across variants, with 3% fat milk reportedly increasing from ₹52 to ₹62 per litre, 4.5% fat milk from ₹63 to ₹68, and 6% fat milk from ₹72 to ₹76. He noted that these prices are significantly higher than those of the State-run Aavin, and that private milk is up to 55% costlier in some categories.

Dr. Anbumani accused the State government of failing to regulate the sector and alleged that private companies have repeatedly increased prices in recent years without adequate justification, leading to a cumulative rise of around 55% over the past four years. He urged the government to constitute a regulatory mechanism to fix fair milk prices based on production costs and to strengthen Aavin’s market share to curb what he termed “excessive profiteering”.
